Join Pat Archibald on a fascinating and inspiring textile journey through Morocco, a land where ancient traditions and vibrant modernity coexist in perfect harmony. This 13-day tour will take you from the bustling streets of Marrakech, renowned for its iconic landmarks and lush gardens, to the serene Atlas Mountains, where Berber hospitality and breathtaking landscapes await. You will be able to immerse yourself further into the intricate world of Moroccan textiles and handicrafts, often passed down through generations, as we visit Morocco’s capital city Rabat, vibrant Fez with its historic medina and artistic heritage, nostalgic Casablanca, and the charming enclave of Essaouira, nestled on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Each destination offers a unique glimpse into Morocco’s diverse culture. In addition, the itinerary includes hands-on experiences and demonstrations led by local artisans, as well as hand-sewing workshops with your accompanying expert Pat Archibald.

Trellis and Rose Panel Workshop information from Pat Archibald: "As we travel through Morocco, I am sure that we will see many versions of textile patterns that have derived from Moroccan tiles. I have designed a small, stylized panel that we can stitch as we go that will feature a quilted tile backdrop with the national flower of Morocco, the rose, intertwined on it. The project will include quilting, applique and finishing techniques and is suitable for all skill levels."
With our flight-inclusive package, today you will meet Pat Archibald and your tour manager at a London Airport for your flight to Morocco. On arrival in Marrakech, we will transfer direct to the hotel.

This afternoon, we will gather together and Pat will introduce you to the 'Trellis and Rose' workshop project.
This morning, our guided tour begins by exploring Marrakech’s labyrinthe streets. Here, we will uncover the historical sights of the city, such as the elegant minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, a symbol of Marrakech's timeless allure; the splendid Bahia Palace, where detailed mosaics and lush gardens evoke a bygone era; and the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa square, where storytellers, snake charmers and spice merchants create the vibrant tapestry of Marrakech's daily life.
We will also visit the Dar Si Said Museum for an introduction into the art of weaving and carpet-making. You will be able to view exquisite examples of craftsmanship before continuing to the Monde des Arts et de la Parure, which houses an extensive collection of costumes, jewellery, and ornaments.
The day will culminate with a visit to the Alnour Association where you will be able to participate in an embroidery workshop, guided by local women. The Alnour Association is a social enterprise and was established in 2019, working to change the lives of women, many with disabilities, enabling them to work and become more financially independent, as well as inspiring other organisations, governments and society at large.
Our day in Marrakech begins with a visit to the serene Thielmann Cactus Garden, where a stunning array of cacti and succulents create a unique desert oasis. Next, we explore the enchanting Majorelle Garden, a vibrant botanical haven filled with exotic plants and cobalt blue architecture. The adjacent Yves Saint Laurent Museum offers a glimpse into the legendary designer's life and work, showcasing his iconic fashion collections and artistic inspirations.
We then delve into the rich history and opulence of the Dar El Bacha Museum. Once a grand palace, it is now home to exquisite exhibits that celebrate Moroccan heritage and craftsmanship including intricately woven textiles and ornate furnishings.
Later in the day, you will be able to stroll through the souks and immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of Moroccan craftsmanship as you browse the stalls, each offering a glimpse into the rich textile heritage of the region. You will visit Dyers' Souk, where colourful textiles and natural dyes create a kaleidoscope of hues, offering a fascinating glimpse into the traditional art of dyeing fabrics. We then visit Dar El Kaftan, which showcases exquisite Moroccan kaftans. Here, you will be able to learn about the history, the craftsmanship of using intricate designs and luxurious fabrics, and the rich cultural significance of the garment in Moroccan society and fashion.
Finally, we explore the Boucharouite Museum, which celebrates the creativity and resourcefulness of Moroccan artisans through its collection of handwoven rugs made from recycled textiles, each piece telling a unique story of cultural expression and sustainable artistry.
Today we escape to the breathtaking Atlas Mountains, where the towering peaks and panoramic vistas provide a stunning backdrop for exploration. Nested in the foothills, we visit the Anima Garden, an enchanting artistic oasis created by André Heller, filled with vibrant plants, imaginative sculptures, and serene pathways that inspire wonder and reflection. Continuing our journey, we travel into the lush Ourika Valley, a picturesque haven of green terraces, flowing streams, and traditional Berber villages, where the natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere offer a refreshing escape from the bustling city of Marrakech.
During the day, we will visit a women’s co-operative dedicated to traditional weaving and dyeing techniques. Here, you will be able to see the intricate process of traditionally processed sheep wool dyeing process using natural pigments.
Lunch will be provided by our hosts in a traditional Berber home, where you will be able to enjoy traditional Moroccan cuisine using local ingredients before participating in a traditional tea ceremony. You will drink from ornate tea cups whilst learning about the art of preparing mint tea, a symbol of hospitality and friendship in Moroccan culture.
After lunch, join local women on the terrace for a traditional weaving experience; witness the set-up of local looms, practice knot rug techniques and hear about the patterns and designs that are unique to Berber culture alongside newfound friends before returning to Marrakech.
This morning, your first workshop with Pat will take place at the Riad.
After lunch, we depart Marrakech and drive to Morocco’s capital city, Rabat, where old and new blend seamlessly. Arriving late afternoon, there will be time to freshen up before our early evening guided tour of some of the city’s historic landmarks including the majestic Kasbah of the Oudaias, a picturesque fortress overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, with its charming narrow streets, Andalusian gardens, and stunning views.
This morning, our exploration of Rabat continues with the iconic Hassan Tower, an unfinished minaret dating back to the 12th century, which stands as a testament to Morocco's rich history. Nearby, we will see the Royal Mausoleum overlooking the city’s skyline, a masterpiece of modern Alaouite architecture and the final resting place of King Mohammed V and his sons. Next, we wander through the serene Testing Garden, a hidden gem filled with diverse flora and peaceful pathways, providing a tranquil escape.
This afternoon we will make a stop at the Oulja Handicraft Centre, a vibrant hub where local artisans showcase their handmade goods, from intricate pottery to beautifully woven textiles, each piece reflecting Morocco's rich artistic heritage.
We then head to Dar Sanea, the House of the Craftsman, nestled within the historic Rabat Medina. Established in 1957 by King Mohammed V to promote Moroccan craftsmanship, this centre not only displays exceptional works of art but also provides insight into the techniques and traditions passed down through generations, enriching our appreciation of the country's cultural heritage.
Before leaving Rabat, there will be a workshop with Pat in the hotel.
This afternoon we will visit the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, where we explore the remarkably well-preserved remnants of this once-thriving city. Wandering among the grand arches, intricate mosaics, and towering columns, you will gain a deep appreciation for the architectural and historical significance of this UNESCO World Heritage site before we continue our scenic journey to Fez, the oldest of Morocco’s Imperial Cities, known for its bustling medina and historic monuments.
Fez is the second largest city in Morocco, located to the north west of the Atlas Mountains. Centred around the Fez River, the city is renowned for its labyrinthine medina, Fez el-Bali, which is listed as a World Heritage Site and is believed to be one of the world’s largest pedestrian zones with narrow, winding streets lined with bustling souks, aromatic food stalls and artisan workshops.
The Chouara Tanneries are a vivid testament to the city's rich history and its enduring legacy as a centre of leather production. Dating back to the 11th century, the tanneries are among the oldest and most iconic in the world. Today, you will be able to gain an insight into the age-old craft of leather tanning. Witness the vibrant hues and bustling activity as skilled craftsmen transform raw hides into supple leather using centuries-old techniques. Next, we venture into the world of pottery making as you visit local artisans at work, shaping clay into exquisite vessels and decorative pieces that reflect Fez's rich artistic heritage
You will then meet artisans at a local co-operative and learn about the traditional textile techniques that have passed through the generations. We will also visit a traditional lace thread factory, seeing how intricate lace is crafted with precision and care, and Atelier Mrama, a workshop dedicated to the creation of ‘Mrama’ or decorative braids, used to embellish luxurious Moroccan textiles. See the skilful, meticulous process of producing Djellaba buttons by hand.
The remainder of the day will be free for you to lose yourself in Fez’s vibrant atmosphere, souks and artisanal workshops of weavers, dyers, wood and metal workers.
This morning, we depart Fez and drive to Casablanca, tracing the rugged landscapes and coastal vistas that characterise Morocco's diverse terrain. On arrival we will visit the Hassan II Mosque, a stunning architectural marvel that stands majestically on the city's waterfront. It is the largest mosque in Morocco and the 7th largest in the world, featuring intricate mosaics, towering minarets, and a breathtaking location partly built over the Atlantic Ocean.
After checking in to the hotel, the afternoon will be at leisure to explore the city and souks independently, before we gather for dinner at the nostalgic Rick's Café, inspired by the famous, fictional gin joint in the 1942 film ‘Casablanca’!
Today we will drive along Morocco’s scenic coastline and through historic towns to the coastal gem of Essaouira. En route, there will be a stop in El Jadida, a town that reveals its Portuguese heritage through the impressive Mazagan Fortress and the underground cisterns.
Continuing along the coast, we will visit El Oualidia, a serene fishing village renowned for its stunning lagoon and delicious fresh seafood and the location for our included lunch today. Our journey will continue to Safi, a city famous for its vibrant pottery industry and the impressive Kechla fortress, before reaching Essaouira. Here, you will be able to explore the charming streets and bustling souks of this seaside haven, steeped in history and charm.
Our day begins with a morning workshop with Pat, before we make our way to the home of a local family where you will be able to enjoy a traditional lunch and experience the warmth of Moroccan hospitality.
Nestled on Morocco's Atlantic coast, Essaouira is a city where history, culture, artistic charm and natural beauty converge. There is a unique blend of experiences and, during this afternoon’s sightseeing tour, we will explore the famous port with its colourful fishing boats, as well as wandering the fortified city of La Sqala's network of streets and visiting the picturesque medina. You will also have the opportunity to find inspiration in this coastal enclave’s thriving art scene. With its eclectic shops and galleries, it showcases a diverse array of paintings and local handicrafts around every corner.
Departing Essaouira, we will visit one of Morocco's renowned argan oil co-operatives, where tradition, sustainability and women’s empowerment intersect. Nestled in the heart of the Moroccan countryside, these co-operatives are the soul of the argan oil industry, producing what is often referred to as ‘liquid gold’!
During the visit, you will see the argan tree groves, witness the traditional methods used to produce argan oil, learn about the rigorous standards maintained to ensure purity and quality, as well as gain an insight into how the co-operative empowers local women by providing them with fair wages, education and a supportive community.
After an included light lunch, we will drive to Marrakech, where Pat's final workshop will take place at the Riad before we dine together at a local restaurant.

With our flight-inclusive package, enjoy time at leisure in Marrakech before your transfer to Marrakech Airport. Here, you will board your return flight home.
You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to get the most out of this holiday. You should be able to access / alight the transportation unaided and there may be a walk between the coach drop off point and the excursion venue. By their nature, walking tours, museum visits etc involve being on your feet for a significant amount of time and may cover uneven ground. Whilst our excursions are taken at a leisurely pace, for the enjoyment of everyone in the group you should be able to keep up with your fellow travellers.
You will stay for four nights at the Riad Dar Justo Hotel & Spa in Marrakech, two nights at the Le Diwan MGallery Hotel in Rabat, two nights at the Barcelo Fez Medina, one night at the Barcelo Casablanca Hotel, and two nights at the Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery before returning to the Riad Dar Justo Hotel & Spa in Marrakech for one final night. All hotels are rated 4-star and above.

Located in the heart of Marrakech’s Medina, the Riad Dar Justo Hotel Boutique is a 14th Century traditional Moroccan Riad with just 23 unique, individually styled bedrooms. Situated in a peaceful corner of the Moussine quarter, the riad is just a 3-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa Square. Please note that due to the traditional design and historical preservation requirements, riads do not have lifts. These buildings are typically compact, with small bedrooms and narrow staircases constructed from materials that wouldn’t easily support a lift. The small scale and few floors of riads make using stairs practical and part of the traditional experience.
